How do I fix the 'Oculus Runtime Service unavailable error?

Attempting to open the Oculus app on your PC will sometimes bring up a runtime error. Restarting your PC might solve the problem, but you'll most likely have to tweak some settings in your Services menu to completely take care of it. Here's how to do it!

How to fix 'Oculus Runtime Service unavailable' error

  1. Hit Windows key + R on your keyboard to launch the Run window.
  2. Type services.msc.
  3. Click OK.

  4. Click Oculus VR Runtime Service.
  5. Click Start in the Start the service line to the left of the window.

The Oculus Runtime service will start, and you should be able to open the app again. If the problem persists, ensure the Oculus Runtime service is set to start every time you start your PC.

How to set Oculus Runtime service to start with PC startup

  2. Type services.msc.
  3. Click OK.

  4. Right-click Oculus VR Runtime Service.
  5. Click Properties.

  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK.

    Click Apply. Click OK.

The Oculus Runtime service will now automatically start each time your PC starts.
