While being forced to reset your controller can be frustrating, it is easy.

Having your new Gear VR controller misbehave while you are trying to enjoy yourself can be supremely frustrating. While nobody ever wants to deal with this, it does happen from time to time. While resetting your controller will take a few minutes, it is entirely doable.

How do I reset my Gear VR controller?

Unfortunately for the moment to reset your controller you'll have to unpair it from your phone. While this might change down the line, for the time being it seems to be the only way to reset things without just taking the batteries out of your controller, and then popping them back in.

First you'll need to head to your bluetooth settings. You ought to see your paired Gear VR controller in the paired devices column, tap the gear to it's right. From here tap on 'Unpair'. At this point the Gear VR controller should drop into the 'available devices' column. You'll then to pair your phone and controller once again. After you have repaired your controller, you'll be able to jump back into VR and enjoy yourself once again.

  1. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone.
  2. Tap the gear to the right of your Gear VR controller.
  3. Tap 'Unpair' to disconnect your controller from your phone.
  4. Return to the Oculus app and reconnect your phone to the Gear VR controller.

Why would I need to reset my Gear VR controller?

From time to time you may find that you need to reset your controller. While we'd advise double checking the battery life on your controller if it's acting up, a hard reset can often get it working correctly once again. It's a simple fact of technology that on occasion it's going to act up.

If you have issues with your controller not working properly, or acting wacky, and the batteries still have a full charge, then you may just have to bite the bullet the reset the darn thing. While it will take you a few minutes, it shouldn't have you away from your VR headset for more than about 5-10 minutes.
