SteamVR Home is one of the latest extensions of SteamVR, which introduces new social-driven experiences to the platform. Rolled out alongside a range of activities and customization options to share with friends, Steam now acts partially as a social VR hub to connect its users.

After creating your own avatar and customizing an environment, you'll need to invite some friends to make the most of SteamVR Home. These are the steps to invite players into your session and take advantage of the activities available.

How to invite friends via SteamVR Home

Before experimenting with the features of SteamVR Home, you'll need to get your friends into the same session. To begin, you'll need to create a room with the correct preferences.

  1. Press the Menu button from SteamVR Home.
  2. Navigate to the Environments section.
  3. Choose a location to host.
  4. Select Host a Room.
  5. Select Host a Friends Only Room to keep the experience between Steam friends.

After a room has been created, friends can now be invited via the Steam social features.

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Open the Social section on the right-hand side of the on-screen menu.
  3. Navigate to the Friends tab.
  4. Click on a friend to invite.
  5. Select Invite Here to invite them into your space.

An invite should now be distributed, where an on-screen pop-up will be visible to recipients.

What can you do with friends in SteamVR Home?

With SteamVR Home still in its early days, the current offering of activities with friends is rather limited. At this point in time, simply chatting with players in a virtual space is the main component of the experience, with some minor features branching off to expand the social impact.

With the help of friends you can directly doodle on the world, continue to customize your avatar or play with collected props – but right now, that's the height of the platform. While games will remain as the core of SteamVR, we can expect SteamVR Home's offerings to continue expanding in the future.
