Brick and Mortar Microsoft Stores around the US have been showing off HTC Vive experiences in their demo areas for weeks now, and if you've ever walked by one of these sessions in progress you know they draw in quite the crowd. Microsoft does an amazing job showing off what the user in the headset is seeing on a giant Surface Hub, and everyone who experiences the inside of a Vive walks away thoroughly impressed. It's a great setup, and the only way it could be better would be if Microsoft made it so you could purchase a Vive through the online store as well as in the physical locations.
Which is exactly what they just did. Starting today you can purchase the HTC Vive base kit from the Microsoft Store.
For the uninitiated, that includes:
- One Vive Headset
- Two Vive Controllers
- Two Lighthouses
- One Sync Box
- Power and Data cables
Prices for the Microsoft Store listing are identical to those found on HTC's website, and currently Microsoft has no listings for accessories like extra controllers or anything. Those would still need to be purchased directly from HTC, but this base kit is everything you need to get started with Steam VR. Go have fun!
